Consortium

Project Partners

The EPISERVE consortium brings together leading expertise in epidemiology, data science, computer science, mathematical modelling, and high-performance computing.

Partner 1: Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB)

Coordinator: PD Dr. Tim Conrad, Dr. Nataša Djurdjevac Conrad, Prof. Dr. Christof Schütte

Specialisation in mathematical modelling, parameter estimation in complex systems, and HPC-based data analysis. ZIB developed the MATSim-EpiSim framework within the MODUS-Covid project and provides significant HPC resources.

Partner 2: Technische Universität Berlin (TUB)

Lead: Prof. Dr. Kai Nagel

Expertise in large-scale agent-based models and dynamic transport simulations. The MATSim framework has been continuously developed for nearly two decades and forms the technical foundation for epidemiological models.

Partner 3: Freie Universität Berlin (FUB)

Lead: Prof. Dr. Max von Kleist

Contributions to modelling viral dynamics and evolution, and to the development of models for public health decision support. Expertise in estimating infection incidence and predicting infection dynamics.

Partner 4: Robert Koch Institute (RKI)

Lead: PD Dr. Thorsten Wolff, Dr. Djin-Ye Oh

As Germany’s central public health authority, the RKI brings extensive experience in managing infectious disease data. It operates the German Influenza Reference Centre and conducts virological surveillance of acute respiratory infections.

Partner 5: German Aerospace Center (DLR)

Lead: Dr. Martin Kühn

Expertise in high-performance computing and infectious disease modelling, including HPC-capable agent-based models, machine learning surrogate models, and hybrid modelling approaches.

Partner 6 (associated): Wrocław University of Science and Technology

Lead: Prof. Dr. Tyll Krüger

Years of experience developing complex agent-based models for infectious diseases. Leader of the MOCOS group in Poland and member of the COVID-19 advisory team of the Polish Ministry of Health.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
